BROTHERS Leo and Mikey Kabul woke to a fantastic surprise last week - in the form of their dad!

Fikret Kabul was separated from his family for a year over a visa wrangle. His wife Jill Elwell, who runs the Reform WMC at Goldthorpe, has battled to get him home from Turkey after his visa was refused, spending thousands of pounds in the process.

She said: “Fikret got here early in the morning so went to wake the boys. They were overjoyed - Leo couldn’t stop crying and I think Mikey thought he was still dreaming!

“We had the biggest celebration ever - family, friends, everybody.”

The bureaucratic nightmare that led to the separation is now over, but Jill, 39, said they will now work hard to get Fikret through the test that will allow him to apply for residency.

His newly renewed visa is for two years, after Dearne MP John Healey supported the family by pleading compassionate grounds to the Home Office, for bringing forward their Appeal against the UK Border Agency’s decision not to allow Fikret home. The Appeal never took place after the British Embassy in Turkey intervened to bring about a swift resolution.

Jill and Fikret met in 1995 when Jill was on holiday in Turkey. They married 13 years ago and Fikret had previously acquired two-year spouse visas.
