Engine project at arts college

STUDENTS at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology have taken on a project to dismantle a fire engine - and then build it back up again.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue donated the Mercedes truck to the college, which attracts students from the Dearne, for use on a mechanics course.

Students will take apart the back end and rebuild it to help learn about vehicle components.

The vehicle was set for the scrap yard until lecturer Jason Allen stepped in and asked the brigade to donate the engine for the project.
