A MOTORIST is fighting for his life after skidding off the road in heavy rain.

The 49-year-old was driving a black Ford Ka along Kirton Lane in Stainforth towards Thorne when yesterday at around 10.45am, when it veered onto the opposite side of the road before ending up in a ditch.

He is currently being treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for life-threatening injuries.

The police are now urging any witnesses to the crash to come forward so they can establish whether the driver was ill at the wheel in the moments leading up to the car leaving the road.

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 372 of Sunday, April 29.
