doncaster Rovers player El Hadji Diouf was among six arrested after a nightclub brawl which left a man seriously injured.

The Doncaster Rovers striker is understood to be one of five men who were bailed until May 23 following the fight at a Manchester club.

The man, understood to be a friend of QPR’s Anton Ferdinand, remains in a serious but stable condition after sustaining injuries to the side of his head and neck in the alleged incident shortly before 3.40am on Sunday.

Anton Ferdinand is also understood to have been interviewed under police caution but not arrested.

Police were called to the Circle Club, Barton Arcade, Manchester, following reports of the disturbance in the early hours of Sunday.

A Greater Manchester Police statement said: “Six men were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, five of whom have been bailed until 23 May pending further police inquiries.

“Another man has assisted the investigation, which is ongoing.”

Mr Diouf, 31, who has previously played for Liverpool, Bolton and Blackburn, did not play in Doncaster’s 4-3 defeat by Portsmouth on Saturday, which saw them relegated from the Championship.
