Doncaster quiz ace Mike set to Face The Clock

QUIZ ace Mike Follows will be hoping to make a good impression when he comes face to face with comedian Rory Bremner today.

Mike will be squaring up to the famed impersonator when he takes part as a contestant on new Channel 4 daytime quiz show Face the Clock this afternoon.

And it won’t be the first time Mike, a commercial business manager with sweet shop chain Thorntons, has starred on the small screen – for in 2004 he pitted his wits against the most feared quizmaster of them all, feisty Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link.

He said: “It was great to meet Rory Bremner – he’s a really friendly chap who was happy to have a good chat with the contestants.”

But he’s hoping to go one better on the show where six contestants answer questions against the clock after he lost out on The Weakest Link in the show’s sudden death round.

In the new programme, contestants answer questions against the clock – but no-one knows when time will run out – and whoever is playing when it stops is out.

Mike, married to Gemma and with a two-year-old son Max, recorded his appearance on the show, which goes out at 3.30pm, before Christmas.

He said: “The game show experience is a bit of fun with the added bonus that there’s a chance of winning some money.

“But it can be a long day to get half an hour’s finished show.

“I had to set off from home at 5.30am to get up to a freezing cold set in Dumbarton in Scotland for Face the Clock. There is so much waiting around that you get to know the others quite well and although we were all competing with one another, there was a great atmosphere amongst the contestants.”

Mike, 31, a season ticket holder at his beloved Doncaster Rovers and who is currently topping a football scores prediction contest the Doncaster Free Press, is keeping tight-lipped about how he fared on the show though.

“How did I do? Wait and see!,” he added.

* Face the Clock will be screened on Monday on Channel 4 at 3.30pm.
