Council gritters out in force trying to keep roads open. Do you think enough has been done?

DONCASTER Council’s fleet of gritters have been out in force treating the borough’s road, the local authority has said this evening.
With temperatures expected to plummet to -10, council bosses are urging residents to take care.
The authority said its staff had been snowploughing and gritting roads over the past few days and nights, as well as clearing and treating footways.
As temperatures fall below -7 the council has warned treated areas could be slippery as rock salt becomes less effective below that temperature.

Peter Davies, mayor of Doncaster, said: “We started the winter with around 7,000 tonnes of salt, we have similar stock levels to last year when we did not run out at any point.
“In bad weather we have to make the best use of resources and prioritise key routes to keep the borough moving. Local farmers have also helped with ploughing roads to minimise disruption.
“I would also remind people to look out for older and vulnerable friends, neighbours and relatives, to check that they’re safe and well through the winter.”
The council is carrying out precautionary treatment on 350 miles of its highway network. It said salting or snow clearing of other roads will take place during severe conditions when resources permit.
Footpaths and cycleways will not normally receive precautionary treatment but will be attended to during prolonged freezing conditions on a priority basis as resources allow. Priority footways are those near hospitals, shopping areas and schools.
Residents can also use grit bins which are located across the borough.
