Doncaster Council is continuing with its proactive approach to tackling litter by convicting another 12 people of littering offences at Doncaster Magistrates Court.

With total fines and costs exceeding £4000 in the first court cases of the new year, people are being reminded that the Council takes littering very seriously and that people who drop litter will have to pay for their actions.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Communities, Street Scene and Environmental Protection said: “ We are committed to keeping Doncaster clean and tidy and there is no excuse for littering. We are starting the year as we mean to go on and these hefty fines should be a warning to people that if they are caught dropping litter there will be consequences.

“Residents and visitors are reminded that they shouldn’t drop litter in the first place but for those who do, ignoring a fine is not the answer because we are prepared to take anyone to court who fails to pay the penalty.”.
