Concerns over building site injuries in Doncaster

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

HEALTH and safety inspectors are planning unannounced visits of building sites tomorrow after figures revealed that 19 people have suffered serious injuries in the last two years.

Officials from the Health and Safety Commission released the figures as they announced plans for a crackdown to stop potentially dangerous working practices.

A team of inspectors will make unannounced visits tomorrow to ensure site bosses are properly managing high-risk activity, such as working on roofs or at height.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive will visit sites in the town where refurbishment or repair works are taking place.

They will also check for general good order, assess welfare facilities, and check whether suitable personal protective equipment, such as headgear, is being used appropriately.

In neighbouring Rotherham, one worker has died and 27 have been seriously injured over the same period.

Nationally, there were 49 deaths and more than 2,800 major injuries.

The purpose of the initiative is to remind those working in the industry that poor standards are unacceptable and could result in enforcement action against companies, according to Government bosses.
