A VEHICLE dumped and set alight near a Doncaster village was so badly damaged by fire that crews were unable to determine the make or model of the car.

The vehicle was found ablaze on a remote farm track on Sunday night with crews from Thorne fire station struggling to reach the scene of the incident along a narrow country road.

The car had been dumped and torched on a track near Green Lane, Hatfield at 9.30pm on Sunday - and officers spent more than an hour putting out the flames and damping down the blaze using hose reel jets.

A South Yorkshire fire service spokesman said the vehicle suffered so much damage in the incident that crews were unable to determine the model.

The blaze is being treated as suspicious.
