Bridge is set to be opened again

DONCASTER’S North Bridge will be reopened to all outbound traffic in a bid to ease congestion and boost business for shops.

The bridge, which is part of North Bridge Road and connects the town centre with the north of Doncaster, has been limited to buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians since St George’s Bridge opened in 2002.

But works to reopen it for all outbound traffic are to start on Monday, September 24.

The works are to take around eight weeks to complete and will mean all motorists can use the bridge heading out of Doncaster.

The move means people travelling back to the Dearne should face an easier trip home, as they can use the bridge to get to Sprotborough and then onto Mexborough.

Civic leaders say the reopening will solve a long-standing traffic nightmare, and could boost trade for town businesses.
