THREE Doncaster men have been arrested on suspicion of murder today following a missing persons investigation.

South Yorkshire Police have arrested the trio on suspicion of the murder of 56-year-old Thomas Christopher Groome, who was last seen on New Year’s Day 2010.

The three men arrested are a 36-year-old man from the Wheatley area and a 23-year-old and a 56-year-old both from the Bentley area of Doncaster.

Irish national Thomas spent the Christmas of 2009 with family in Barnsley and New Year celebrations with family in Doncaster.

Thomas left his son’s house in Thorne, Doncaster on New Year’s Day, and his family understood that he was travelling to Portugal where he intended to settle and start up a small business.

He was last seen driving a distinctive 2002, left-hand drive, black, sporty-looking VW Golf.

Thomas’ family became concerned when they were unable to make contact with him over the following months and reported him as a missing person to the police in England and Portugal.

Since 2010, South Yorkshire Police has been investigating the disappearance of Thomas with assistance from authorities in Portugal and the Republic of Ireland.

Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone that has any knowledge Thomas Christopher Groome’s movements or any sightings of him or his car after 1 January, 2010. Anyone with information is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police immediately on 101, quoting incident number 107 of 13 March, 2013. Or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
