THE current chief constable of a Scottish police force has been recommended to take over policing in the Isle of Axholme.

Matthew Grove, Humberside Police’s crime commissioner, has proposed Justine Curran, as the next chief constable of the force.

Ms Curran is currently top officer of Tayside Police, a position she has held for almost four years.

Mr Grove said: “I always said this would be the most significant decision I would make. Justine clearly brings sound experience as an existing chief constable, having worked in some extremely challenging areas of the country.”

Sheffield-born Ms Curran joined Greater Manchester Police in 1988 and served in various posts including the regional crime squad. During her career with various forces she has held high ranking posts covering Manchester and Liverpool.

Ms Curran has also helped to develop neighbourhood policing teams and worked in counter terrorism units.

Mr Grove’s recommendations comes with the backing of the force’s police and crime panel.

Ms Curran will take up her role in April, subject to a confirmation hearing, when it is expected her appointment will not be opposed.
