POLICE in Doncaster have carried out a number of drugs raids seizing cannabis worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Officers swooped on five homes in the borough recovering more than 1,000 cannabis plants with a combined value of £316,000.

The first raid took place on a house in Hexthorpe Road, Hexthorpe, where police recovered 103 plants worth £31,000.

Days later two properties in Stone Close Avenue, Hexthorpe, were also busted. Officers seized more than 600 plants worth nearly £200,000.

Other raids took place on homes in Wharncliffe Street, Hexthorpe, and Birch Avenue, Skellow, where £104,000 worth of cannabis was recovered.

Police have revealed three people have been charged in connection with cannabis production and have been remanded until their court dates.

Det Insp Steve Leach said: “Drugs have an impact on the lives of residents and the community and the removal of such a large quantity of drugs will hopefully improve the quality of life for them.

“The information we receive from the public is vital to assist us in locating the properties and tackling the issue.

“I would continue to urge people to contact the police, or Crimestoppers anonymously, with any information or concerns they have in their area.”

Call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
