Best foot forward to highlight issues

COUNCIL tenants in the Gazette region are being invited to join in a number of walks in 2010 to help highlight any issues on the borough's estates.

St Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation responsible for managing around 21,000 properties for Doncaster Council – carry out walks on all the estates it manages regularly, and this year's schedule of walks has just been launched.

St Leger Homes teams up with Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire Police and local councillors to look for any problems that may need rectifying – such as graffiti or litter. After the walks, the improvements are carried out.

Dave Abbott, assistant director at St Leger Homes of Doncaster, said: "The estate walks are a great way of picking up any concerns tenants have. It means we actively find out what needs doing and then plan for any work that needs to take place."

Walks taking place in this region are: Jan 28 – Coronation Road and New Park Estate, Stainforth, meet at Stainforth office, 9.30am; Feb 4 – South Common in Thorne, meet Sports Centre, Haynes Road, 9.30am; Feb 18 – Moorends, meet at Winning Post, Marshland Road, 9.30am; Feb 25 – Kirk Sandall, Barnby Dun, Fishlake, Sykehouse, Kirk Bramwith, meet at Brecks Lane Shops, 9.30am; Mar 5 – The Crescent, The Oval, Broadway in Dunscroft, meet at Somerfield's, Station Road, 9.30am; Mar 11 – North Common, Willow Estate in Thorne, meet at Harlequin, Millfield Road, 9.30am; Mar 18 – Church Road, Squares in Stainforth, meet at Stainforth office, 9.30am.
