Almost all students get places

NEARLY every 10 and 11-year-old child in Doncaster has been offered a place at their preferred secondary school.

Some 96 per cent of primary school children received a place at their first choice school, and 99 per cent were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools, maintaining the level from last year.

Out of almost 3,000 applications in Doncaster, just 33 children did not receive a place at any of their preferred schools.

All of the children have been offered a place at their local school.

Parents refused places have been offered the right to an independent appeal. The council said it was happy to work with families to identify alternative places.

Coun Eric Tatton-Kelly said: “These statistics show our ongoing commitment in trying to ensure as many children as possible start the next academic year at one of their preferred schools.”

The figures came as part of National Announcement Day - when all local authorities across the country tell parents, guardians and the Department for Education the outcomes of the 2013/14 school admissions process.
