A CASH windfall worth £100,000 a year is to be injected into the north of the Isle by energy company SSE.

Construction work has started to create the 34 turbine Keadby Wind Farm and the operator will put some of the profits into nearby communities.

A panel will start working out later this year which good causes should be given the money.

Any organisation will be able to apply for a share in the funds, Crowle town councillors have been told.

Coun Trevor Barker will be on the distribution panel, along with fellow North Lincolnshire Council ward representative John Briggs, and a representative from every parish and town council in the north Isle.

Coun Barker said: “Everywhere will get their whack, even the little places like Garthorpe and Fockerby.”

The only thing not yet in place is an application process, but that’s being developed now, said SSE spokesman Jayne Williams, whose company is behind the project.

“It will be published in a few weeks, and details of how to apply for the funding will be made known then,” she said.

Coun Barker said the funding would be a great boost to the community.

“It’s going to be a very easy application process, and whatever the committee decides, SSE will probably rubber stamp it,” he said.

“I would hope that the schools might be able to benefit on a rota basis, and the committee will look at anything.

“Every organisation should be prepared to get its share, and the distribution will be proper and fair. SSE will give us the money.”

Once constructed, the wind farm will have an installed capacity of 68 Megawatts.

It will provide clean, green energy and power the equivalent of 57,000 homes.

A community group has been formed to keep people updated on the progress of the wind farm. The next meeting is due at Crowle Community Hub on Monday, March 11, from 5pm.

SSE is also proposing an extension of Keadby Power Station, which is set to create 490 jobs.
