ROTHERHAM and Doncaster have seen some of the biggest increases in youth unemployment in the country in the last year, new figures have revealed.
In Doncaster, the proportion of 18-14 year-olds claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance between 2010-2011 increased by 2.7 percentage points to 13.8 – the fifth highest rise in the country.
While in Rotherham for the same period, it increased by 2.6 percentage points to 13.3, the eighth highest rise of all UK authority areas.
John Healey, Labour MP for Wentworth and Dearne, said: “The government are failing our young people and they need to act now and do more to stop another lost generation.
The figures were released by the Trades Union Council.
