PRISONERS could face criminal charges following a probe into a three-day riot which caused £1 million of damage.
More than 250 inmates were moved to other jails after riots at Moorlands Prison near Hatfield Woodhouse which resulted in three offcers being injured and a young prisoner being taken to hospital.
Detective inspector Dave Mayfeld said since November’s disturbances a team of detectives had been working full time to identify the offenders who were involved.
He added: “As a result of inquiries South Yorkshire Police have identifed 80 suspects who we believe were involved in the disorder.
“The Prison service has provided excellent support, however there is still some way to go before the matter is fnalised.”
