Inspector finds Doncaster school has made '˜rapid' improvement

Inspectors from education watchdog, Ofsted, found that Intake Primary, in Intake, had made ‘rapid’ improvement since its last inspection in March 2015.

Headteacher Helen Broad, along with other leaders, was praised for her ‘inspiring and determined’ leadership which has led to improvements in teaching and pupils’ progress.

The school was given a good rating - a step up from its last rating of requires improvement.

Lead inspector Alan Chaffey said: “Intake Primary is now a securely good school.

“Strong relationships and mutual respect characterise this happy, hard-working school. A real sense of teamwork and shared vision pervades the school.”

Inspectors found that pupils are now making good progress in reading, writing and maths. But children do not make as good progress in maths as they do in reading and writing, with the most-able students not being sufficiently challenged.

Teaching has ‘substantially improved,’ and well-planned activities enrich pupils’ learning and stimulate their interest.

Pupils were described as extremely well behaved, respectful to others and eager to learn.

Inspectors did highlight several areas for the school to improve on.

It must accelerate the progress and raise the attainment of the most able pupils in maths and teachers should use challenging and focused questioning more consistently during learning activities, so that all pupils think harder about what they are learning.

Leaders and governors should also ensure that the roles of teachers are developed further and systems for tracking the progress of pupils in subjects, other than English and maths, are implemented,

Attendance must also continue to improve after inspectors found that it is still below the national average.
