Mexborough’s movie fans had a day to remember when an outdoor cinema opened in the town centre.

The huge screen was set up near the town library on Hope Street as hundreds of cinema-goers packed into seats to watch a series of films.

Free popcorn was handed out and there was even a Hollywood-style sign spelling ‘Mexborough’.

Families looked on in awe as they watched kids film Frozen in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, adults got their chance to watch a re-run of the classic Kes in the evening followed by a showing of Flash Gordon,

featuring Mexborough- born Brian Blessed. The event, held last Thursday, was set up as part of the Doncaster Community Arts team’s ‘Right Up
Our Street’ campaign to bring the arts to some of Doncaster’s outlying towns and villages. Project leaders said they hope to install
the pop-up cinema again sometime.
