Jobs joy as care firm doubles its workforce

Massive changes in the social care system have helped a Doncaster firm embark on a recruitment drive that will more than double its workforce.

Prestige Nursing + Care is bucking the national trend and seeking to take on up to 100 more staff.

It provides home-based personal care and support services to the elderly and to people with physical and learning disabilities, dementia, terminal illnesses, acquired brain injury and spinal injuries.

The company is also looking for trained nurses, to work on a full or part-time basis for organisations that regularly need agency staff, such as care homes, respite centres, hospitals, and learning disability units.

Demand for its services has soared as people are given control over their own care budgets - known as personalisation - and with a national emphasis on allowing people to remain in their own homes as long as possible, rather than going into residential care.

The Department of Health says ‘every person who receives support, whether provided by statutory services or funded by themselves, will have choice and control over the shape of that support in all care settings’.

Personalisation is designed to ensure services are tailored to the needs of individuals, rather than delivered in a ‘one-size-fits-all’ way.

Hallgate-based Prestige Nursing + Care opened in 2009 and already employs 92 staff who deliver 1,200 care hours each week.

Managing director Mike Dooley said: “With a national drive by the Government to keep people in their homes for as long as possible, we are seeing an increased demand for our services, so we now need to recruit the staff to allow us to meet this demand.

“We can meet the needs of all client groups, whether that is an elderly person just requiring an hour’s worth of companionship once a week, through to providing 24-hour-a-day nursing care to someone with very complex needs.

“We are also getting more requests from other organisations to provide care and nursing staff.

“Not only does this save them money because the staff are employed by us, they know they are getting very highly qualified and trained people who can hit the ground running and make a real contribution to their operation.”

Prestige Nursing + Care, which is a preferred provider of care for Doncaster Primary Care Trust and Doncaster Social Services, offers full on-the-job training and qualifications, as well as highly competitive rates of pay and conditions.

Mr Dooley added: “It is fantastic that we are in a position to recruit when the economy is still struggling, but we do place great emphasis on the quality of our care and nursing staff.

“All staff seeking to join us need to pass over 20 different checks and are then subject to ongoing training and supervision to ensure we deliver the very highest standard of person-centred care to our clients.”
