Hospital given expert ratings

SCUNTHORPE General Hospital’s accident and emergency department has been rated in the latest survey of A&E departments in the UK.

The Care Quality Commission survey compares NHS Trusts on eight overall sections, with a total of 40 questions exploring every aspect of hospital emergency care services across the country.

The seven areas where the A&E departments at Scunthorpe and Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, came out on top included giving patients enough privacy when being examined or treated, and explaining test results in a way patients can understand. The trust which runs the hospital scored ‘better than’ most other trusts in England on six individual questions.
