Dearne Valley patients at Barnsley Hospital’s Endoscopy unit, can be assured of high quality care after a national seal of approval.
The unit has achieved accreditation from the prestigious Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy, which formally recognises that a high quality endoscopy service is operating in the hospital.
The accreditation means that patients attending for endoscopy can be assured of an excellent service delivered by a highly skilled and fully trained team.
JAG visits Barnsley Hospital’s Endoscopy Unit every five years to make assessments and recommendations based on a list of predetermined criteria.
When JAG visited the hospital in May they commended staff (pictured) on their hard work and dedication to improve endoscopy for patients. Some of the work that was praised was a new decontamination facility, the move from mixed sex to single sex recovery areas and designated discharge rooms.
Gastroenterology endoscopist, Tony Chappel, said: “Achieving JAG accreditation is important to us as it is proof we are providing a high quality, safe service to our patients.
