Charity offers to listen to children

Children in Doncaster are benefitting from the generosity of local companies and organisations after a Childrens Room was developed for independent charity, Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service (DRASACS).

A DONCASTER charity has offered hundreds of hours of counselling to children who have been sexually abused over the last year.

Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service (DRASACS) has offered more than 400 hours of sexual counselling to children since January last year.

It has dealt with so many children needing counselling, the charity has now been forced to create a special children’s room.

The charity, which also helps family members who have been affected by sexual crimes, has managed to secure more than £4,000 from businesses and funding groups to create the room so young people being counselled would feel safe talking about their experiences.

Debbie Partington, clinical manager at the service, said: “The Children’s Room has been transformed into the perfect place to counsel youngsters; we’re delighted with the result and many children are benefiting from the bespoke facility and service we are now able to offer.”

Anyone who needs to access the counselling service can do so by visiting the charity’s website, which also has a section on how to delete browsing history if women are scared their attacker might find out they are seeking help.

Donations are also being taken by DRASACS for future projects by contacting Ms Partington on 01302 360421.
