Care firm branded ‘inadequate’

A Doncaster care provider has been branded ‘inadequate’ by a health watchdog, following a recent inspection.

Doncaster domiciliary care service, 1 Diamond Jones Service has been placed in ‘special measures’ after the Care Quality Commission rated it as being inadequate in four out of five key areas.

Following the inspection in May, the service, which provides personal care to about 21 people across the borough in their own homes, was found to have breached a total of six of legal requirements – and, in doing so, put its users at ‘significant risk’ of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care.

Inspectors criticised the service after discovering some of the people who requested to see a care worker received visits that were shorter than half of the allocated time.

Other areas of concern raised by the CQC include problems with the capability of staff due to many being inconsistently ‘trained, supervised and supported’.

The report said: “We found overall that people using the service were at significant risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care.

“The overall rating for this service is inadequate and the service is therefore in ‘special measures’.

“The service will be kept under review, and will be inspected again within six months.

“The expectation is that the provider should have made significant improvements within this timeframe.”

The care firm said it was working to address the concerns.

A spokesman for 1 Diamond Jones Service said: “We are working to make the required improvements set by the CQC and to meet the legal requirements specified.”

The service was found to be ‘inadequate’ when inspectors looked at whether the service was safe, effective, responsive and well led.

However it was deemed as only ‘requiring improvement’ when the CQC looked at how caring the service provided was.

Some of the service users interviewed by the CQC said care workers were ‘nice’, although others complained about the caring approach of staff.

The relative of one service user told the CQC: “They are always rushing to their next call, and sometimes that means they forget things important to my relative.”
