Doncaster Free Press readers are being urged to take part in a unique competition - to name the gritter lorries which will take to the streets of the town this winter.
Doncaster Council has a fleet of 12 gritters and is appealing for the help of members of the public to name four of the lorries.
There are eight creative names to choose from, which are:- Grittersaurus, Freeze Fighter, Snow Gritter, Ice, Little Gritx, Snowbuster, Grittendoor and Ice Breaker.
The creative names have been compiled by children from a range of schools across the borough, including:- St. Joseph’s and St. Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, Coppice Road Special School, Windhill Primary School, Balby Central Primary School, Woodfield Primary School and Green Top Primary School.
A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: “We would like the help of the Doncaster Free Press readers to name four of our gritter lorries ahead for this winter.
“There are a total of 12 gritters in the fleet, six names have been chosen by council staff and two will be chosen by social media polls on the council’s accounts.
“All of the name suggestions have come from local schools.
“We are looking forward to seeing the names your readers pick.”
Anyone who would like to suggest one of the names for the gritters should post their suggestions by letter to ‘Gritter Lorry Competition, Doncaster Council, Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, DN1 3BU’. Please include your name, address and a contact number.
