Three Goldthorpe charities have benefited from a cash windfall thanks to a public vote.

Shoppers at the Co-operative food store in the town were asked to vote on who should receive a share of a £1000 funding pot.

The parish hall was awarded £489 towards a new cooker, Goldthorpe Development Group received £268 to organise community events such as a football tournament and Highgate Community Group took home £243 towards an after-school club for local people, which will include arts and craft activities.

Reverend Carl Schaefer, from Goldthorpe Parish Hall, said: “We are thrilled to have received this funding from The Co-operative and extremely grateful to all the members that voted for us. The support we have received by Goldthorpe residents through this scheme has made us feel very proud.”
