It is time to get your boots on - and get walking to help our fantasic Miles Better Million campaign!
We want you, our army of readers, to join us for a fantastic family event this summer that will help everyone have fun in the sun and raise cash for a vital cause.
The Afternoon Lakeside Walk has been organised by our friends Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust and on August 16, we want scores of you to join in the event which we hope will draw in thousands of pounds for our campaign to bring radiotherapy services to Doncaster for the very first time.
We’re aiming to collect a massive £1 million to help scores of cancer patients across Doncaster in our moneyspinning drive, which we launched earlier this year.
Currently, patients from Doncaster undergoing gruelling cancer treatment have to endure exhausting trips across South Yorkshire to receive vital radiotherapy treatment in Sheffield.
But if we reach our target, health chiefs will be able to open a brand new suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary saving patients those difficult journeys across the county.
The walk will get under way at 3pm from the Keepmoat Stadium and will take in the picturesque area around Lakeside.
The route is approximately one and a half to one and three quarters of a mile and it suitable for all ages - so the whole family can take part.
We want youngsters, mums, dads, grandmas, grandads, friends, families and colleagues to come out in force and support us.
It costs £5 per person, £10 for a family entry and £30 for corporate entries - and to add to the fun and colour of the afternoon, there’s the chance to take part in fancy dress too.
The walk follows in the footsteps of the popular Midnight Walk, also organised by DCDT, with walkers taking a similar Lakeside route - although as the name suggests, that particular event is in the dark and often in the depths of winter!
Organisers hope the summer Sunday afternoon staging of the stroll will encourage more families - and younger participants - to come out and join in the fun.
Jeannette Fish of DCDT said: “We want as many people as possible to come out and support us. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we will get a good response to help draw in even more money for our campaign.”
Official t-shirts have been produced too for walkers - priced at £5 each or £8 for two.
And there will also be medals for those taking part - as well as other fun for all the family too.
