Fires round-up: Arson attack sets off wood blaze

Arsonists set a skip filled with wood alight in a disused yard in Balby last night. A crew from Doncaster Fire Station was sent out to the site, at Burton Avenue, at 2.30am, using two hosereels to put out the flames. They were on site for an hour.

Firefighters spent nearly four hours fighting blazing hay bales at Sixrood Lane, in Burghwallis, Doncaster, last night. They were called out the site at 11.40pm and found 40-50 bales on fire when they arrived. The crew, from Adwick Fire Station, set up fire breaks by moving hay to stop the fire spreading, and did not leave the scene until 3.30am. The fire was believed to have been started accidentally.

A car fire in Carcroft also left a garage damage last night. Part time firefighters from Askern Fire Station were sent out to the blaze at Owston Road at 2.15am and found the car was already well alight. A spokesman said the fire caused partial damage to the garage.

A bin fire in Denaby Main kept firefighters busy for 20 minutes last night. Firecrews from Dearne Fire Station were called out at 9.40pm and used a hosereel to put out the flames.

Firefighters had deal with a small rubbish fire on St John’s Road, Edlington, last night. They used water buckets to put out the fire at 9pm. It is thought to have been deliberately started.
