MARTIAL arts experts raised almost £3,000 to help sick Doncaster children win their fights with illness.

Instructors from the Chun Ma Taekwondo School, which holds classes across the borough, organised the event to collect money for the children’s high dependency unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Around 80 competitors took to the mats, with spectators also enjoying a range of fun activities, for a grand total of £2,700.

Fighters battled for the top honours across six different tae kwon do events and everyone who competed walked away with a medal or certificate.

Money will also be distributed to the Sheffield Cystic Fibrosis Centre.

Organiser Liam Sanderson said the charities were picked because they are close to the hearts of Chun Ma staff.

The competition took place at the Armthorpe Community Centre in Church Street.
