A CAMPAIGN by football fans has brought the Doncaster Rovers cheerleading crew back to life.

The Vikettes cheerleading squad will be returning to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday performing before the team kick off against Brighton and Hove Albion.

And if the fans need an added boost of cheer, the dancers will be performing at half-time too.

The Vikettes were originally launched in 2003 by Sarah Belk but now the group have been taken over by Donna Anderson, one of the original dancers with the group.

But fans have been calling for their return through a unanimous poll on the Rovers Facebook page and through the Viking Supporters Co-operative.

Media Manager Steve Uttley contacted Donna who now runs the Step-up School of Theatre Dance in Barnby Dun, to see if she would like to get the Vikettes back up and running for a game.

She said: “It was a pleasant surprise when Steve contacted me and said the fans wanted us back. We had great times in the past at big games at both Belle Vue and Keepmoat Stadium, including the opening game at the new stadium.

“I have kept in contact with Steve since we stopped and this invitation has come out of the blue, but since I got the call we have worked hard on two routines”
