Epworth shop helps celebrate first ever Hospice Care Week

EPWORTH’S Lindsey Lodge Hospice Shop is joining in with other hospice shops across North Lincolnshire and the UK to launch the first ever Hospice Care Week.

Between October 8 and 14, Lindsey Lodge Hospice hopes to raise awareness of hospice care and address the misconceptions that people may have about what hospice care is.

On Tuesday October 11, 11am-2pm at the Hospice Shop on Epworth High Street customers can enjoy ‘tea and cakes’ while they shop, find out a bit more about the hospice and enter special ‘One Word Challenge’.

Mel Banham, Head of Fundraising at Lindsey Lodge Hospice said: “Hospice Care Week is an important opportunity to challenge the myths surrounding hospice care and show people that it is about living, not dying.

“From being there through the hard times to helping celebrate the good times, Lindsey Lodge Hospice helps people in North Lincolnshire with life-limiting illnesses to live well until they die, and supports their families too.”

To mark Hospice Care Week, hospices across the UK, including Lindsey Lodge Hospice, are asking their local communities what hospice care means to them – in one word.

Mel continued: “Hospice care has different associations for different people – positive, challenging and sometimes very surprising. By asking thousands of people to choose just one word to represent what hospice care means to them, we are aiming to create a picture of what our work really means to our local community, and across the UK.”

‘Choice’, ‘life’, ‘laughter’, ‘friends’ and ‘home’ are among the thought-provoking words that people often mention. We’d like you to pop into the shop with your word, together with a bag of donated goods or cash donation if possible. We will add that word to a ‘wordwall’ in main hospice reception at Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

You can also email enquiries@lindseylodgehospice.org.uk with the one word that shows what hospice care means to you.
