The mothballed former Earth Centre - now a young people’s outdoor activity and education centre springs into action this week.

As The Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre gears up to welcome its first visitors from Denaby Main school and Wath Comprehensive, the site originally built with around £50 million of lottery money has been described as the education provider’s “jewel in the crown”.

The site, which was sold to Kingswood by Doncaster Council last year has taken five months to be refurbished and converted into a learning centre for 320 young residents and 64 teachers .

School pupils from South Yorkshire the UK and internationally will be taught ecology, technology arts and sciences alongside character and team-building activities, such as climbing canoeing, zip wire and Lazerquest-style shooting matches.
