PUPILS said adios to usual lessons and hola to a whole new experience at Thurnscoe.
A first Spanish enrichment day at The Hill Primary was a big hit with both staff and pupils, who danced and dined as Spaniards and even took part in 40-minute workshops when not a word of English was spoken.
Lunch with a continental flavour included such Spanish favourites as paella and paprika chicken, all laid on by the school’s own catering staff, and the Attitude academy from Wakefield gave dance demonstrations before pupils took to the floor themselves for some fast and fancy heel-clicking action.
Year five teacher and Modern Foreign Languages Co-ordinator James Haywood said: “I was absolutely delighted by how well the day went.
“The idea was to give pupils a real flavour of Spain and they seemed to adore the whole day.
“Spanish-speaking teacher Kirsty Brain from the Dearne ALC came in to school to run the no-English workshops, and will follow up on these later.”
The school includes Spanish lessons every week in the curriculum, as a general introduction to the language.
