Members of the Campaign for Real Ale in Doncaster are looking forward to a double treat in the near future as two awards are presented to pubs in the area.

The Winter Pub of the Season award for Doncaster has been won by the Salutation on South Parade, a historic pub that always showcases at least six cask conditioned ales, including a range of both dark and hoppy brews. Often complementing a visit to the ‘Sal’ is a recently introduced feature “an evening with”. This offers discerning drinkers the chance to put questions to brewers, often from local micro-breweries, in a relaxed atmosphere.

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, February 8, at 9pm. All are welcome. Why not come along and sample the fine ales on offer and help congratulate licensee Sue Bee on the Salutation’s worthy award.

The honour of becoming the District Pub of the Season goes to the Haxey Gate Inn, near Misterton. Here licensees Mark and Lynne Mason keep a wide selection of cask ales, including those from local brewers such as Idle and Thorne.

The award is to be presented on Saturday January 28, at 9pm. Everyone is welcome, why not come and enjoy the atmosphere along with some fine ales.

Both pubs achieved their success by being voted for by local members of CAMRA. After visiting them both in recent weeks, along with other venues nominated, a ballot was held and both venues won their respective heats comfortably.
