Doncaster is the luckiest place in Yorkshire for lottery winners, according to a new survey revealing the county’s lotto hotspots.

The National Lottery has revealed that the DN postcode is the best in Yorkshire if you want to scoop the jackpot.

Statistics have revealed that residents have won more major prizes – over £50,000 per person – than in any other postcode area in the county.

And, nationally, Doncaster is ranked a stunning 12th out of the 121 postcode districts with 393 Doncastrians scooping prizes of over £50,000 – including 38 who have become instant millionaires.

The town, whose winners include Bogdan Staroscik who scooped £187,346 on the Lotto in March, and Wally Jinks and Alan Stringer who won £2 million in July 2010, pipped Wakefield into second spot and Sheffield into third.

Lottery winner Wally Jinks said: “It doesn’t surprise me that Doncaster is a lucky place to live. It certainly proved lucky for me.

“It’s a great place with wonderful people and I’ve no doubt that we’re going to continue to see even more winners.”

A National Lottery spokesman said: “Congratulations to the people of Doncaster, who not only live in the luckiest postcode in Yorkshire but also one of the luckiest in the UK.

“Lottery luck can live anywhere and it could be you celebrating next.”
