A Doncaster College graphic design student has scooped a branding design award for her work on the Doncaster Children’s Trust logo.

Sophie Maxwell’s design now features on the outside of the Doncaster town centre building as well as all stationery and display materials.

Students began work on the project last year.

From initial designs a shortlist was reached, and the winning design was chosen. Over the summer break Sophie undertook a placement at a South Yorkshire based design group where her design was developed.

Sophie, who is hoping to study graphic design at university next year, came up with the design of a heart shaped into a child and adult to symbolise the work of the trust and helping people locally.

The vibrant tones of the blue and lime green design also add a splash of colour.

Sophie said of her achievement, “It’s amazing to see the design being used and outside the trust’s building. It’s a great way to start my career off and has given me a lot of confidence. I really am proud”.

Colin Hilton, chairman of the trust’s independent board, approached the College involve students in the work of the trust and was delighted with the result, “Sophie’s design is bold and bright and says exactly what we are about as the new trust in Doncaster.

“As well as working for the community we are very much part of it which is why involving the talents of young people is important. Well done Sophie”
