Police are warning people not to be tempted to buy stolen property after a burglary in Balby, Doncaster, last night.
Entry was gained to an off-licence on Littlemoor Lane between 10.30pm and 5am and a large amount of tobacco and alcohol was taken.
Officers are now urging the public to think about the consequences if they are offered cigarettes or alcohol that is not from a reputable licensed retailer.
Supt Eddie Murphy said: “We want the public to be aware and to say no to making this sort of purchase. The more demand there is for stolen goods, the more criminal activity such as burglaries, will take place.
“If you are caught handling stolen goods, whether intentional or not, appropriate action will be taken against you. If the price is too good to be true, walk away and make sure you buy from a reputable, licensed retailer.”
If anyone is aware or suspicious of this type of activity or knows of someone selling or buying stolen goods, please call the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
