A Doncaster shop owner has spoken of the events of a terrifying armed robbery, during which one of his colleagues was assaulted, dragged across the shop floor and threatened with a kitchen knife.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 7.25pm on Sunday, October 11, when a man holding a knife is believed to have entered Bargain Beers on Balby Road.

The man reportedly pointed the knife at the 47-year-old shop assistant and demanded that she opened the till before pushing her to the floor and hitting her in the face.

The offender forced her to open the till and stole a quantity of cash before leaving the store, which sells alcohol, cigarettes and fireworks among other items.

Ryan Link, who owns the shop with his wife Samantha Link, told the Free Press that the shop assistant was ‘hysterical’ after the horrifying incident.

The 31-year-old said: “We think maybe the shop was scoped out because that was the only point that she was left there by herself.”

The offender is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins and of stocky build.

He was wearing a black jacket and an item of clothing which covered the bottom half of his face.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sgt Andy Knowles said: “The victim suffered a terrifying ordeal at the hands of this individual and we are urging anyone who saw or heard anything to get in touch.

He continued: “We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV, and a team of officers are working with the victim to provide specialist support.
