New licensing arrangements for scrap metal dealers in South Yorkshire will be explained at a free information day next month.
The event is to be held at Rotherham’s New York Stadium on October 18 and is aimed at scrap metal dealers, manufacturers, metal stockholders, utility and telecommunications companies, businesses using metal in their daily operations and any firms affected by metal theft in the past.
The event, organised by the Sheffield-based Business Crime Reduction Centre, will give out details of a new licensing regime which is coming into operation next month.
Details will also be given out about how South Yorkshire Police tackles metal theft in the county and future plans to crackdown on the problem.
The force has run a series of operations across the county over recent months to crackdown on scrap yards which accept stolen metal from thieves.
They have raided yards and carried out stop-checks on vehicles, looking for those dealing in or carrying stolen metal.
Hundreds of officers have been involved in the operations.
Thieves are cashing in on the high value of scrap metal, triggered by a high global demand.
