The family of murdered 13-year-old Casey Lyanne Kearney have spoken for the first time since since her death on Tuesday.
They have released a statememnt, which reads: “Losing Casey has been so painful words cannot begin to explain. She was the most beautiful, intelligent and bright young girl with her whole life ahead of her.
“We need time alone with family and friends to start to come to terms with our loss.
“We would like the media to respect our privacy at this time.”
Casey, a Macauley Catholic High School pupil, died after she was stabbed in the stomach in Elmfield Park, Bennetthorpe, in what police have described as a random, isolated attack.
