A bogus workman has conned an elderly woman out of money at her home in Wheatley.

The man offered to do work on the victim’s property as well but said he needed money to be paid upfront.

The victim handed over cash and the man never returned to carry out the work.

It is believed he left the area in a blue estate car.

The man is described as white, between 20 and 30-years-old, around six-feet tall, and of medium build. He was wearing a light coloured fleece, dark trousers, trainers and a cap.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A spokesman said ‘officers would like to remind residents to be vigilant and look out for vulnerable and elderly members of the community’.

They added: “Quotes for home improvement work should be sought from reputable companies and no money should be handed over before work is carried out.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Doncaster CID on 101 quoting incident number 410 of 9/9/14 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
