A 32-year-old woman from Doncaster has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman in a nightclub, leaving her with serious facial injuries.

Doctors confirmed the woman injured in the attack sustained a detached retina and fractured cheekbone.

The woman from Doncaster was arrested on the scene on suspicion of assault, and was questioned in custody on suspicion of Section 18 assault before being released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The incident occurred in a nightclub in Liverpool city centre between 1am and 1.30am on October 5.

Officers have obtained CCTV footage from the club in a bid to try and identify the people involved in the violence.

Detective Constable Claire Hopkins said of the incident: “The victim suffered serious injuries to her face.”

“She is receiving on-going treatment at hospital and doctors remain concerned that her eyesight may have been permanently affected in some way.

“It appears that a dispute stemming from another group of woman accessing the VIP area has quickly escalated and the victim has been punched repeatedly during the melee.”
