Police are warning of dangers of using mobile phones at the wheel after officers in Doncaster issued fixed penalty tickets to six Doncatser drivers on the same day.
Officers patrolling on Monday afternoon stopped three men in Cantley, one man in Rossington, one man in Armthorpe and one woman in Barnby Dun for using their mobiles in the space of two hours. All six were fined £60 and given three points on their licence.
Supt Eddie Murphy said: “There is an obvious safety message here. Drivers should be concentrating on the road and if they are using their phones, they are putting themselves in danger as well as other road users and pedestrians.
“Accidents can and are caused by momentary lapses of concentration and when drivers are distracted. People in South Yorkshire have been prosecuted and jailed for causing accidents and sometimes deaths when they were using their mobiles.
“Furthermore, your insurance company may not pay out, if it is discovered that you were on your phone at the time of the accident.”
