A well-known former Yorkshire cricketer has been drafted in to help an appeal to repair the roof of an historic church.
Mike Cowan, the former Yorkshire cricketer, is a now popular raconteur and will be bringing his Yorkshire Relish talk to Hatfield next month.
The £10 a head talk is in aid of the Raise the Roof Appeal to fund repairs at the Grade 1 listed St Lawrence Church in the village.
The event, in the church at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 17, includes a cricket tea and guests are able to take their own drinks.
The picturesque church, one of the oldest in the area, has been targeted several times by lead thieves.
The most recent raid, last month, was the worst to date.
Church officials reckon it will cost around £100,000 to repair the roof, but insurance pay-outs are capped atv £5,000.The lead has been marked with Smartwater, which shows up under ultra violet light.
Tickets for the Mike Cowan event are available from Vera Owen, telephone (01302) 840250.
