PENSIONERS are warned to be on their guard, after a Darfield woman had money stolen from her home.
Callers who prey on the old and vulnerable were operating in the School Street area of the village, and were pretending to be from the Water Board, when the theft occurred.
The imposters find a way of gaining access to a home, then one may distract the householder while another makes off with goods.
At a Wombwell and Darfield PACT meeting on Tuesday Sgt Phil Jenkinson said that residents need to be vigilant and not let anyone who calls unexpectedly in to their homes.
He asked anyone who has a call they believe to be suspicious to report it immediately. Forensic evidence can be picked up, he said, adding that gangs carry out this sort of scam across the country.
