MOTORISTS are facing disruption under plans to carry out roadworks next to a Doncaster railway station.

Adwick railway bridge will face lane closures, and complete overnight and Sunday closure, while repairs are carried out on its structure. Road widening work will also be done to create a dedicated right turn into Adwick train station.

The work, due to start during the week starting Monday, April 8, will take 24 weeks and will increase the capacity of Adwick railway bridge.

Doncaster Council and Network Rail are carrying out the work and traffic management measures will be in place for their duration.

Traffic lights will be in operation and the bridge reduced to one lane for the majority of the works. A full closure of the bridge will also be required on some weekends.

It will be closed:

*9pm on Saturday April 13 to 8am on Sunday April 14

*9pm on Saturday April 20 to 6am on Monday April 22

*9pm on Saturday April 27 to 6am on Monday April 29

*9pm on Saturday May to 25 6am on Sunday May 26

*9pm on Saturday August 24 to 6am on Monday August 26

Peter Dale, Director of Regneration and Environment, said: “These improvements will ease congestion and once complete the new bridge and road layout will be of significant benefit for local residents and users of Adwick train station. If these works were not carried out, restrictions would be required at the bridge and it could become a serious bottleneck.”

“We ask motorists to bear with us during the works and encourage them to find alternative routes to avoid the expected delays.”
