Free business support which will help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to make the most of the internet has been offered out by the Northern Lincolnshire Broadband team.

The introduction of superfast broadband across the region from next year will allow businesses to grow through using the internet and digital services.

A spokesman said: “It is essential that all businesses know how to take advantage of the opportunities being part of the digital world brings.

“Research shows that 51 per cent of SMEs increase sales as a result of internet use; over a third of SMEs do not have a website and there is a clear link between digital development and turnover growth among SMEs.”

As part of the business support a range of free events, seminars and workshops will be organised. SME representatives who attend will receive the free consultancy advice worth £2,000 to help identify and create a business plan and use superfast broadband to grow and increase their revenue. Each business will receive 12 hours of business support.

Coun Neil Poole, cabinet member for Policy and Resources, said: “The superfast broadband project in Northern Lincolnshire is well on the way now and it is essential that we make businesses aware of how the internet can make a real difference to their business development. There are so many different things that the internet can be used for. The Business Support Programme is the perfect way to tailor support to an individual business. We recognise that all businesses are different and will use the internet in different ways.”
