Plans for a major warehouse development in Doncaster which are set to create 500 jobs have been rubber-stamped.
Retail giant Next is set to build a warehouse with offices in Armthorpe, complete with new access road and link bridge over Holme Wood Lane.
The development, unanimously approved at yesterday’s Doncaster Council Planning Committee meeting, will link with the firm’s warehouse on Westmoor Park, which has been running for nine years.
A report discussed at the meeting says business has grown significantly over recent years and means the company now needs extra warehouse space to operate as its national distribution centre.
The planned warehouse will occupy an 85,0000 square metre site.
The scheme was approved subject to a section 106 agreement including the condition that a contribution must be made to the cost of the future upgrading of the A630.
Speaking at the meeting planning adviser Chris Quincy said work would begin quickly on the development after planning permission was granted.
The report says: “The development would represent significant investment from a major company, resulting in more than 500 jobs at the new warehouse, as well as securing 528 jobs at the existing Next facilities.”
Dan Fell, deputy chief executive of Doncaster Chamber, said: “The news of 500 jobs is a wonderful boost.”
