Business owners are invited to a networking event with a difference - nestled deep in the woods of Ecclesall.

The event is being held later this week as part of the ambitious Sheffield Outdoor Initiative - which aims to promote Sheffield as the ‘Outdoor City of the UK’.

Sheffield-based businesses of all sectors are invited to attend the JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre in Abbey Lane on Wednesday, June 17.

It has been organised by Business Sheffield and places are limited to the first 100 applicants,

Those who attend will get the chance to learn more about the Sheffield Outdoor Initiative and how the scheme can help to boost business.

The free networking event is held between 5.30pm and 8pm and will include a hog roast and Pimms. To secure your picnic table contact 0114 2245000 or register by email at businesssheffield@sheffield.gov.uk

A study by academics at Sheffield Hallam University last October revealed activities such as climbing, cycling, mountain biking and walking generate more than £53m a year for the local economy as well as encouraging people to be fit.

It also showed that 66 per cent of people in Sheffield take part in outdoor recreation – more than six per cent above the national average. The city has the highest household spend on outdoor equipment in the country, and more than 200 outdoor equipment businesses. Sheffield has been selected to host two major events later this year – the International Adventure Conference in September and the European Outdoor Summit in October.
